Transit and collective cargo: what do they have in common?

In the field of freight transportation, the demand for flexible, economical solutions is growing. One of these is accompanying transportation — a logistic approach that allows for the most efficient use of the transport resource.

This is the delivery of cargo, which is carried out according to an already planned route of a truck headed to a certain city or country. That is, your load “sits” into the body when there is free space in the vehicle. Hence the name – “passenger”.

This service allows:

  • save on transport costs, as payment is made only for the used part of the space;
  • avoid transport downtime, which is beneficial to the carrier;
  • flexible organization of delivery, even if the volume of cargo is small.

And what is collective cargo and what are the similarities? This is a format where several shipments from different customers are combined into one shipment for delivery. Just like the accompanying ones, they provide for partial loading of the car.

Both formats are suitable for small or medium consignments, help to optimize logistics costs and allow more environmentally efficient use of transport – without empty runs.

The main difference is in the organization of the route:

  • in collective transportation, the route is usually formed by the logistician in advance, taking into account all senders;
  • in transit — the client adapts to the already existing transport route.
