As of the end of April 2025, the total debt of the Polish transport, forwarding and logistics (TSL) sector reached PLN 1.59 billion, Logist.FM reports citing Money.pl. This amount increased by 19% over the year, which raises concerns about the financial stability of many companies in the industry.
The most difficult situation is currently observed among companies engaged in road freight transportation. It is this sector that accounts for the lion’s share of debts – PLN 1.26 billion, or about 80% of the total amount of debts.
In total, there are 31.7 thousand companies in the TSL sector in the registers of debtors today, while a year ago there were 29.3 thousand. The number of restructuring and bankruptcy procedures is also growing: in 2021, only 5% of companies in the industry carried out such measures, and now it is 13%.
The average debt of one transport company in Poland is PLN 50.3 thousand, and in the field of road transportation this amount is higher – PLN 54.5 thousand. At the same time, the debts of warehousing companies amount to PLN 118 million, and postal and courier service operators – PLN 46.7 million.
Transport companies owe the largest amounts to insurance companies (PLN 171.3 million), trading companies (PLN 146.2 million) and banking and financial institutions (PLN 142 million).
Analysts emphasize that the industry remains an important element of the country’s economy, but needs support and adaptation to new market conditions.
