US imposes tariffs on low-value parcels from China

The last exemption for Chinese online commerce in America has been canceled. From now on, all parcels from China to the United States will be subject to customs duties, regardless of the value of their contents. Thus, President Trump’s administration has realized its threats, making it as difficult as possible to import Chinese goods, Logist.FM writes.
According to Bloomberg, the “de minimis” rule, which allowed foreign shippers to send goods worth up to $800 to American consumers without paying duty, is no longer valid for China. Against this backdrop, one of China’s leading marketplaces, Temu, has decided to abandon its usual scheme of selling relatively inexpensive goods and delivering them directly to US customers.
Instead, the company is switching to a new model: goods will be shipped to the United States in large quantities, and sales will take place through American online stores. Although this will increase the price of products, Chinese exporters hope to cut costs and retain a share of the US market by bulk deliveries. For end buyers, this means that they will no longer have to worry about customs clearance.
