Serious traffic violators in Europe will be punished more severely

The European Union may soon have a new mechanism for punishing drivers who grossly violate traffic rules. This is reported by Lardi.Today with reference to verkehrsrundschau.de. Representatives of the European Parliament and member states have reached a preliminary agreement that obliges EU countries to impose a driving ban throughout the Union, even if the driver has obtained a license in another country. Currently, driving bans are only valid within the country where the violation was committed. The new rules will oblige the state that issued the driver’s license to apply EU-wide sanctions under certain conditions.
These are serious violations, such as drunk driving, significant speeding, and fatal accidents. In order for the measure to be applied, a driving ban must be imposed for at least three months and all legal options for appealing it must be exhausted. Before the innovation comes into force, it must be approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.
