Ukrzaliznytsia transported almost 197.9 thousand TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) of cargo in containers over 9 months, which is the highest figure for the last 7 years. This was announced by Valeriy Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Commercial Department of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, Ukrinform reports.
“For 9 months of 2024, the volume of cargo transportation in containers increased by 47% compared to the same period in 2023. This figure is the highest in the last 7 years and exceeds the volume of traffic in the same period of peak 2021 by 7%,” the statement said.
According to Tkachev, almost 62% of all container transportation took place in the export direction. The leader of transportation is grain cargo, which accounts for 44% of the total volume.
As reported, in January-September 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 131.88 million tons of cargo, which is 23.3% more than in the same period last year.
