Domestic seaports handled a record 97.2 million tons of cargo last year, exceeding the 2023 figure by 57%, Forbes reports.
Agricultural products accounted for about 60 million tons of the total, confirming the key role of ports in the exports of the Ukrainian agricultural sector. The country exported 88.1 million tons of cargo by sea, up from 56.2 million tons a year earlier. The USPA called the growth in seaport cargo turnover amid the shelling “impressive”. More than 2,500 vessels have used the Ukrainian sea corridor in more than a year and 70 million tons of cargo have been transported. During the full-scale invasion, more than 50 attacks on port infrastructure took place, resulting in damage to more than 280 port infrastructure facilities and the destruction of more than 100,000 tons of agricultural products, according to the Ministry of Reconstruction in October 2024.
