Ukraine has begun the process of adapting its maritime transport legislation to the requirements of the European Union, reports Lardi.Today, citing the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.
Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Andriy Kashuba held a meeting with representatives of the European Commission for Mobility and Transport (DG Move) and EU Enlargement (DG Near). During the discussion, a preliminary review of Ukraine’s legislation was launched, which is an important stage before the negotiations on accession to the EU.
“Maritime transport remains the main channel of Ukraine’s international trade. Before the full-scale invasion, it provided up to 70% of exports, including 90% of food supplies. This emphasizes Ukraine’s critical role in global food security. Ukraine’s aspiration for European integration places new demands on the transport sector, in particular, the maritime transport sector. Ukraine consistently prioritizes the fulfillment of its obligations under international agreements, including those included in the EU legislative framework,” Andriy Kashuba noted.
The next stage is to receive recommendations from European partners, which will contribute to the further adaptation of Ukrainian legislation in the field of maritime transport to European standards.
