In recent years, the Ukrainian logistics industry has faced with a number of challenges and problems related to the pandemic, quarantine measures and restrictions, which have led to accelerated localization of supply chains and relocation of all their participants closer to production facilities and sales outlets. However, the large-scale invasion of Russia has become a real challenge for our country’s logistics, which has led to its transformation and a large-scale reorientation of all business processes.
Ukrainian companies had to react suddenly and make non-standard decisions related to the danger from the accumulation of goods, changes in warehouse and transportation conditions, disruption of supply chains due to hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, massive shelling, occupation, curfews and the constant risk of new enemy attacks.
The main problems of the pharmaceutical industry under martial law can be divided into 5 main groups: infrastructure, logistics, financial, production and social.
Logistical problems include significant disruptions in supply chains due to the blocking of communication routes, especially sea and air transportation, which were the main routes of raw materials for the pharmaceutical market.
In addition, an important factor that has negatively affected the logistics of this industry is the increase in the cost of supplying raw materials and finished products due to a significant rise in the price of fuel and lubricants, as well as a catastrophic shortage of specialized transport for the transportation of pharmaceuticals that require special transportation conditions.
