Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced an ambitious infrastructure project that could dramatically change the logistics picture of Southeast Europe. It is about creating a land transport corridor that will connect the Greek port of Alexandroupolis with the Ukrainian city of Odesa via Bulgaria’s Varna and Romania’s Constanta.
He said this at the 4th Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit in Odesa, Landlord reports.
The route of the future: railways, power grids, and gas pipelines
According to Mitsotakis, the project envisages a comprehensive expansion of infrastructure, including the modernisation of railways, laying of power lines, and development of gas transmission networks. This approach will provide Ukraine with stable and fast connections to southern European countries, reducing its dependence on maritime transport, which remains vulnerable to geopolitical risks. He also emphasised that the project could be funded from the EU budget, making it even more realistic.
